Your island guide to the best beaches, events, nature, life & culture
This gallery covers the Baile de Magos held in San Cristóbal de La Laguna as part of the multi-day San Benito Abad celebrations. Streets of the historic centre fill with traditional Canary outfits, parrandas and long communal tables. (The romería takes place on a different day.)
We begin with a wide view that captures the essence of the night: colourful façades, outdoor tables and neighbours dressed in traditional clothing.
As daylight fades, the historic streets turn into a giant open-air gathering. Strings of lights frame the scene while parrandas play nearby.
The event welcomes all ages. Play areas and benches appear next to the music so families can rest between dances.
The illuminated bell tower of Iglesia de La Concepción becomes the emblematic backdrop for performances, dances and gatherings.
Decorative lighting marks the route through the centre and creates small squares where friends meet to talk, sing and dance.
Young participants keep the tradition alive, alternating songs, dance steps and friendly conversation.
Beyond the main square, smaller stages host bands and dance groups to spread the music across several streets.
Between dances, food stalls and neighbourhood tables offer sandwiches, sweets and drinks to refuel and keep the night going.
The Baile de Magos of San Benito Abad showcases La Laguna at its most welcoming—heritage streets, traditional clothing and music shared around long tables. If you visit Tenerife during these dates, add this night to your plans to experience the island’s living folk culture. (Romería day is held separately within the same festival.)
