Playa de Los Tarajales Beach and Coastal Promenade in Los Cristianos Tenerife

Playa de Los Tarajales is one of the most relaxed corners of Los Cristianos, on the sunny south coast of Tenerife. This coastal stretch combines a natural volcanic shoreline, a wide pedestrian promenade and open views over the harbour and Montaña de Guaza, making it ideal for quiet walks, sunrise runs or simply sitting on a bench and watching the Atlantic.

Panoramic views over Los Cristianos bay

From the beach you enjoy a sweeping panorama of the bay, with the harbour and the distinctive brown cone of Montaña de Guaza framing the skyline and apartment buildings climbing up the hillside.

Looking along the coast you can see how close Playa de Los Tarajales is to the main harbour area and ferry terminal, yet the atmosphere here is much calmer than on the busier central beaches. It is a good place to photograph the contrast between the volcanic coastline and the urban resort skyline.

Quiet sandy section of Playa de Los Tarajales

Behind the bay lies a broad area of dark volcanic sand where you can stroll almost alone even on days when other Los Cristianos beaches are crowded. The unspoilt feel and open space make it attractive for travellers who prefer a more natural environment.

This part of the coast is not full of sunbeds or beach bars. Instead, it offers room for a peaceful walk, for children to play in the sand or for locals to bring their dogs early in the morning or late in the evening, always respecting the beach rules.

Volcanic rocks and natural shoreline

Towards the edges of Playa de Los Tarajales the sand gradually changes into fields of black volcanic rocks. Here the coastline looks wilder, with lava stones of different shapes and colours scattered along the waterline.

This section of the beach is not ideal for swimming but is perfect for exploring tidal pools, watching the waves break on the rocks and taking photos of the rugged volcanic landscape typical of Tenerife.

The mix of sand and stones also means the water stays unusually clear, and on calm days you can see the rocks under the surface creating beautiful patterns when the sun reflects on the sea.

Fishing spot facing the harbour

One of the most typical scenes at Playa de Los Tarajales is the presence of local anglers. They set up their rods on flat rock platforms facing the entrance to the harbour and spend hours waiting patiently for a bite.

From this point you also enjoy a direct line of sight to the breakwater, lighthouse and inter-island ferries that connect Tenerife with La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, adding movement and colour to the seascape.

Access ramp and seafront promenade

A distinctive feature of Playa de Los Tarajales is its modern access ramp that connects the sandy beach with the wide seafront promenade. The ramp and railings make it much easier for families with prams or visitors with reduced mobility to reach the shore.

Once on the promenade you can walk comfortably along the coastline, with palm trees on one side and the Atlantic on the other. The path is flat and spacious, ideal for jogging, skating or just strolling at sunset while enjoying the sea breeze.

This tranquil section of the coastal path is less crowded than the central paseo of Los Cristianos, making it a good option for travellers who want sea views without the noise of busy bar terraces.

Palm trees and chill-out terraces

Behind the beach, modern terraces and cafés are hidden among palm trees and low volcanic stone walls. These landscaped areas give Playa de Los Tarajales a relaxed, almost garden-like atmosphere, especially in the late afternoon when the light is golden.

Why visit Playa de Los Tarajales in Los Cristianos

Playa de Los Tarajales is not the classic postcard beach with golden imported sand, but that is exactly what makes it interesting. Its mix of natural volcanic shoreline, wide promenade, fishing spots and open views across Los Cristianos bay offers a more authentic and relaxed experience of the south of Tenerife. Whether you come for a peaceful walk, to take photos of the harbour and Montaña de Guaza, or simply to enjoy a quiet corner by the ocean, this beach is well worth including in your coastal route through Arona.
